Saturday, December 10, 2005 ok i've been busy lately with debate camp and helping the younger ones prep their cases and worrying over them like something. (i'm not going to say) anyway it seems that, from the reports that robyn has given to me that they wont be able to advance to the quarter final round cause they only managed to win 1 out of 3 while the 4th debate results was kept a secret. seriously, i find this particular competition extremely rubbishy and ridiculous, and for the next few years if they were to ever hold it again would reject their invitation to join them. What with explecits used by the organisers, and phrases like 'scums of the earth' its a wonder and extreme amazement how these kind of people turn out to be debaters and debate organisers as well.

and yes, i'm sneering and scoffing at how lousy their attitude is and their limited range of vocabulary that they have to resort to vulgarities while debriefing debaters for debates. With pathetic reasons of why they chose to give 12 motions and ask the debaters to prepare 24 cases i simply cannot consume the fact that they are PEOPLE who are USUALLY respected for LOGICAL thinking, INTELLIGENCE, and POLITENESS.

ok enough said about them. They don't deserve to be mentioned so much in my blog.

The Debate Association camp was okay i guess. the first day of workshops weren't exactly useful with the fact that i've heard exactly the same things before at AJC Mayors debate series. The exhibition debate was ok. nothing exciting excluding some small laughs here and there. What meant to be the appreciation of the HUMAN body, a speaker turned it into appreciating the MALE body. For a while i was a little confused i must confessed and guessed that Auyong was mixed up which turned out to be true. Her face was flushed with embarrassment after that.

3rd Speakers were brought up during the question and answer session where i was busily soaking up info just in case i continue to stay as 3rd for next year.

Today was better I must say. had rebuttals workshop in which motions like THBT EVERYTHING LEADS TO SEX. haha interesting topic huh?! yeah. then had policy workshop with Jon pflug in which in proceeded to fire questions at me for the first section. Learnt one thing i guessed. It isnt that good to have yr previous coach in a debate workshop that you have joined haha. you could here 'Sam what do you think.' or 'Sam whats your answer to this.' seriously its not enjoyable at all when you don't have an answer in mind. Nicole was attacked as well during the question and answer session and she just stared stupidly at the ground until her team mate came to her rescue haha.

We had discussing for a motion and after that 6 was picked randomly to debate it. Frankly speaking, i was a little disappointed when i wasn't one of them. Since Au-yong had opened POIS to the floor, people were randomly standing up and POI-ing the speakers. I only warmed up to it at 3rd prop though where i kept standing up at fireing POIS at the poor sec 1 Barker debater. He's really cute though. Cute as in funny not cute cute. he has the sam ehabit as robyn. with the free hand going up and down like its chopping something.

David and i were like laughing about it throughout his whole speech. headed down to the main room where another exhibition debate was held. this time more interesting, with ex-Singapore national debaters against D.E.P advance people. enjoyed it, with rubbishy things coming up halfway through e.g. bananas, castrating, and religion coming up. really enjoyable. oh and phrases like this came up as well "f***ing french shit" lol. and the best part was that he didnt realised that he said that. tsk tsk. the things you say and are oblivious.

We'll be having an exhibition debate tomorrow at Tampiness library. 6 of the participants were chosen to debate. Nicole s one of them. and just the same, to tell you the truth, jealousy creeped up. Not that i was angry, just that i couldnt understand why, when i stayed with debate all along, and nic left only to come back this year after much much coaxing from ME, go into competitions, get best speaker and then get chosen for exhibition debates. sometimes i wonder if it was ever a right choice that i made to beg her to come back to the debate circle with me.

next year would be the last time i'll get to debate with her. the main one definitely being JG'S. only then will i know if i have improved in my top 20 rankings in B div or whether Nic has overshadowed me. sigh.
