Sport Leaders Training Camp(SLTC) has been a fulfilling 2 days. The first day was entirely filled with lecture after lecture about various claims, sports nutrition, various roles and responsibilites and what nots- necessary for a captain, vice captain and quarter master to learn. Everybody bunked in at the dance studio with only a handfull sleeping at the squash courts. I mean initially it was suppose to be the girls only at the dance studio but the dragonboat guys insisted on sleeping in the DS *tsk* so the rest of the guys ended up with us as well. Sleep only took over at around 3am and waking up at 6. After that was the trip down to Sentosa for station games!
We werent given much chance to know our group members plenty on the first day so pretty much we knew about each other was close to zero. Crazy crazy games. Such as the whole transferring rope from one person to another in a circle. Everyone was wriggling madly trying to get the rope off their bodies. Oh and the sweaty stickyness. Shudders.
I must say that girls were such a minority. Like either 2:8 or 3:9. some groups didnt even have girls. goodness. Plus my other half of a girl had to leave halfway so i was the only female in the group. And sadly, i didnt receive special treatment. Instead they made me leader for certain games and took away a whole tub of ben and jerry's from me.
It was rightfully mine! I mean 2 tubs per group so it DOES make sense that girls get 1 tub and guys get another aye? hahaha. but NOOOO they stole my whole strwaberry tub. lol.
Dinner was awesome at...ok i cant remember the place but it was close enough to Songs of the Sea for us to catch glimpses of the fireworks. We didnt have to pay a dime for the whole camp including the dinner at the restaurant. They gave each of us an allowance to us for dinner and so we all chilled out next to the sea. :D Once in a while you could hear the grunts of the guys playing hand wrestling. Yeaa like
some rowdy english pub with everyone surrounding them, cheering and faking bets. Canoeing vs Dragonboat. Lol.
The 4
serangoon-ers NELed back. :D and 3 of them lived so close to one another. Like across a road or 1 street down. haha. to think that they've never met each other before. Totally a great time of knowing other sports leaders and learning so much from the past experiences of various CCAs, the achievements and failures especially. Some sports are not as well off as others. No coach to train them, not enough people to make a complete team yet each of them press on supporting one another. The discipline as well. It'll be so easy for them to just give up and disband but the refuse and thats one thing I admire.
I've learnt that:
Ruggers are a rubbishy bunch, full of crap and nonsense
Wakeboarders pay a whole lot of money for each session
Waterpolo doesnt have a coach but they're still pushing on
Dragonboat girls team only has 5 members: 1 to rudder, 3 to row and 1 to give the beat
Table tennis players are fed up of the recreational team that does nothing except take up space
Basketball and
Soccer has a fighting history on and off the court/pitch
It takes courage and determination to lead a team and it wont be easy.
